Hello! I’m working through the different study topics, but I can’t find the answer I’m looking for. I’m studying the topic of “Pray(er)”, and I was wondering how to search without getting results that include “I pray thee…”, etc. I’m looking more for the mechanics of prayer; when to pray, how to pray, etc. What are your suggestions? Thanks!
Hi Kirk, that’s a great question. I started doing some testing and discovered trying to do NOT commands with quoted text doesn’t work right. I’ll have to get that fixed. With it working right you could search:
pray* -“I pray thee”
and it should remove all instances of that combination. Then you could continue whittling down the results doing something similar as you discover other phrases you don’t want.
There are a lot of results searching for [pray*] with a wildcard which makes it challenging to remove all those instances. You could actually do this and save the results to a collection note and then as you read them just click the minus button to remove them from the collection. That would get you down to the core verses, but that’s a lot to click remove on. You could start with the Bible Dictionary and Topical Guide topics on prayer. Each time you see a word of interest like “mighty”, write it down so you can go back through the scriptures searching for [mighty and prayer] and things like that.
Thank you, Oak! I knew you’d find a way. I will try this!
